The client runs a company offering car rental for different periods. The service includes both short-term and long-term rental. However, the client’s website is not a simple offer page. It is an advanced ERP-type system that connects an online store, management tools, and rental modules.
The system is complex. Therefore, the work required a staged approach and careful analysis of reported issues. The client provided audit files with lists of needs, bugs, and improvement requests. Based on these materials, we completed the next stages of system development.
Our goal was to improve the booking forms, increase user comfort, and organize the management panel. At the same time, we focused on security, stability, and easier system handling for the client’s team.
Scope of work
The project covered several areas. First, we focused on the short-term rental form. Next, we improved the long-term rental booking form. In parallel, we handled maintenance and technical development tasks.
In addition, we supported the client during a crisis when the website was attacked. We also implemented long-term protection mechanisms to reduce the risk of the problem returning. Finally, we developed a redirect module in the Back Office panel. Thanks to this, the client can manage URL redirects and redirect codes more easily.
Short-term rental form
Price increase management panel
The client originally requested price increases for a specific period. Instead of implementing a one-time change, we prepared a flexible feature in the management panel.
Thanks to this, the client can now set temporary rental price increases independently. They can define the percentage value, duration, and activity status. As a result, the feature works not only for one campaign but also for future seasons, promotions, and periods of higher demand.
This solution gives the client more control. In addition, it reduces the need to involve a developer each time prices need to change.
Fixing add-on price calculation
The form had a bug related to add-on price calculation. It affected items such as child car seats, snow chains, holders, and other extra options. The price was not always calculated correctly, so it affected order accuracy.
We fixed this mechanism and immediately tested all add-ons. Thanks to this, the form now correctly includes selected options. What is more, the user sees the right price, and the client receives orders that match the configuration.
UX, contrast, and form accessibility
We also introduced visual and UX improvements. We adjusted the colors of buttons and interactive elements so they stand out from the background. At the same time, we ensured proper contrast and color saturation in line with accessibility good practices.
In addition, we improved font size, font color, and the appearance of form fields. We brightened empty fields to make them easier to distinguish from completed fields. As a result, the form became clearer and more comfortable to use.
These changes are important because the rental form is one of the key parts of the purchase path. The easier the form is to complete, the lower the risk of booking abandonment.
Location suggestions
We added an intuitive location suggestion feature. The mechanism works based on the city selected as the rental location. Thanks to this, users can find the correct location faster and move through the form more easily.
This is especially important in car rental, because the pick-up or service location can affect the next booking steps. As a result, the form guides the user through the process more effectively.
Mileage limits and price updates
We fixed the section related to mileage limits. Previously, the price did not always match the selected limits. In addition, the added fee was not presented clearly enough.
After the update, the form calculates the price correctly according to the new mileage limits. At the same time, it displays the currently added amount in a clear way. Thanks to this, the user understands what they are paying for, and the whole process is more transparent.
Drag & drop add-on sorting
We added an option to sort order add-ons from the Back Office panel. The client can now manage the add-on list and change the order of items independently. We used an intuitive drag & drop mechanism for this.
Thanks to this, the most important add-ons can be displayed higher in the form. In addition, the client can quickly change the order without technical support. This makes everyday work easier and allows better offer management.
Long-term rental form
Clearer form fields
We also improved readability in the long-term rental booking form. We adjusted the contrast between form fields and the page background. In addition, we introduced a clearer difference between empty and completed fields.
Thanks to this, users can see which information has already been entered. At the same time, they can move through the next steps more easily. As a result, the form is more user-friendly and less visually demanding.
Mobile bottom bar with cart button
For the mobile view, we added a bottom navigation bar. We placed an “add to cart” option there. Thanks to this, the user has easy access to the main action, even while scrolling the page.
This solution shortens the mobile purchase path. Moreover, it makes it easier to move to the cart, which is especially important in complex forms and long-term rental offers.
Cyberattack response and website security
During the cooperation, the client also needed urgent support after a cyberattack. Our response was immediate. First, we analyzed the possible attack vector. Next, we verified logs and checked the website’s behavior.
Then, we implemented scripts that reduced the impact of the attack. Thanks to this, we were able to restore the website within a few hours. At the same time, we proposed long-term solutions to reduce the risk of the system being blocked again.
We implemented ongoing monitoring and a Cloudflare-type proxy service. As a result, the website gained an additional protection layer. Importantly, the work did not end with a one-time emergency response. We introduced mechanisms that help protect the system in the future.
Maintenance work and Back Office development
In addition to larger development stages, we also handled maintenance tasks. We completed email templates related to order handling, so communication with users became more complete and consistent. In addition, we added the option to edit selected pages from the management panel.
We also implemented scripts in the website code and connected Google scripts. Thanks to this, the client could use analytics and marketing tools. At the same time, we developed the system so more elements could be managed directly from the Back Office panel.
301 and 410 redirect module
One important task was to create a module for redirect management. The client wanted to add redirects directly in the Back Office panel. Redirects with 301 and 410 codes for selected URLs were especially important.
We prepared an easy-to-use module that met these requirements. In addition, we added the option to choose the redirect code. Thanks to this, the client can independently manage redirects and system responses for selected addresses.
This solution supports technical order and SEO. 301 redirects help send users and search engine crawlers to the correct addresses. Meanwhile, the 410 code clearly indicates that specific content has been permanently removed.
Results
During the cooperation, we developed a complex ERP system for a car rental company. We improved both short-term and long-term rental forms. We fixed price calculation, add-on handling, mileage limits, and form readability.
In addition, we improved the client’s experience in the management panel. We implemented features that allow the client to set price increases, sort add-ons, and manage redirects independently. Moreover, we supported the client during a cyberattack and implemented long-term protection mechanisms.
As a result, the website is more stable, more user-friendly, and easier to manage. Most importantly, the system now responds better to current business needs and can be developed further in the next stages.
